How to Join a Zoom Meeting
The following instructions will ensure that you can easily join a Zoom meeting, using either a link or a meeting ID. It will also address your options for connecting to the audio portion of the Zoom meeting.
Step by Step Guide to Joining a Zoom Meeting Using a Link.
In this scenario, you have been invited to join a Zoom meeting that has been organized by someone else. You have an email or a calendar invite with a link.
Step 1 — Open up the email or calendar invite with the Zoom information.
Step 2 — Click on the link. If you already have Zoom installed on your computer, the program should launch automatically and take you into the meeting.
If not, you can follow the above steps (4-6) to download and install Zoom on your computer — you will probably be prompted to do this automatically. If you’d prefer to join without installing, skip down to How to join a Zoom meeting without installing the program.
Step 3 — If prompted, choose whether you’d like to join with video or without video.
Step 4 — Connect to the audio (instructions below).
Step-by-step guide to joining a Zoom meeting with a Meeting ID
In this scenario, you don’t have a link to join a meeting directly. Instead, you have been given a Meeting ID (and possibly a passcode) and need to join manually.
Step 1 — Visit zoom.us/join.
Step 2 — Enter the Meeting ID, then click Join.
Step 3 — If prompted, click the Open URL:Zoom Launcher.
If not, you can choose to “download and run Zoom” (instructions above) or “join from your browser” (instructions below).
Step 4 — Enter your name, the meeting passcode (if applicable), select whether you want Zoom to remember your name for future meetings, then click Join Meeting.
Step 5 — If prompted, choose whether you’d like to join with video or without video.
Alternatively, you can join the meeting from your browser without downloading and installing Zoom on your computer:
Step 1 — Follow one of the above sets of instructions to start the process to join the meeting.
Step 2 — If you’re prompted to download the Zoom program, click Cancel.
Step 3 — From your browser, click the link labeled “join from your browser”.
Step 4 – Enter your name, check the box (and complete the tasks) to verify that you’re not a robot, then click Join.
How to join the audio of a Zoom meeting using your phone.
Once you’ve successfully connected to a Zoom meeting on your computer, you can use your phone to hear the audio portion.
Step 1 — Select Phone Call at the top of the audio window.
Step 2 — Dial one of the phone numbers listed.
Step 3 — When prompted, enter your Meeting ID, then press #.
Step 4 — When prompted, enter your Participant ID, then press #
You will then be connected to the meeting.
How to join the audio of a Zoom meeting using your computer audio.
You can also use your computer to hear the audio portion.
Step 1 — Click Computer Audio at the top of the audio window.
Step 2 — Click Join with Computer Audio to connect. Alternatively, you can test your speaker and microphone before joining, where you’ll be asked whether you hear a sound and can hear yourself speaking.
