New Research: How Solo and Small Firms are Using AI in 2026
The CosmoLex 2026 Legal Tech Report, conducted by Ari Kaplan Advisors, draws on interviews with 50 solo and small firm practitioners in the U.S. and Canada about how technology, and AI in particular, is changing the way lawyers practice.
Some findings that stand out in the report:
• 74% of lawyers use AI daily, and 90% use it at least weekly.
• Accuracy (60%) and data security (52%) are the top concerns with using AI.
• 80% say AI has made their legal work more efficient, with one lawyer cutting a sentencing memo from two days to an hour.
• 70% would be more likely to buy practice management software with built-in AI for back-office work.
• Only 14% say AI has changed their pricing, but many report higher margins on flat-fee work.
