The Slap and the Smear: Blake Lively, Will Smith, and Attorney Ethics

September 9 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

$60.00

When celebrities collide, the legal and ethical fallout often maps directly onto the rules governing attorney conduct. Professional legal educator Stuart Teicher, Esq. (known as The CLE Performer) uses the biggest celebrity scandals of recent years — from Will Smith’s Oscars moment to the Blake Lively defamation litigation — to unpack the ethics rules attorneys navigate every day. Objectives include:

– Identify how filing claims without adequate legal basis violates RPC 3.1, using the dismissal of ten of Blake Lively’s thirteen claims as a case study in meritorious vs. frivolous litigation

– Recognize how physical assault might constitute a crime, violating Rule 8.4 on misconduct

– Consider how Timothy Chalamet’s ill-advised comments about opera and ballet illustrate conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice (Rule 8.4(d))

– And more!
